I am looking at mid mount mowers Vs rear mowers. I plan on getting 60" mower does any one have any information that will help. Manueverability, cutting quality, ease of removing any information would be a big help.

I think it depends on what else you are going to do with the tractor. I have a compact 4wd with a mid mount Woods (60"). I have ag tires, and I think a midmount could do a little better job, because you make the cut before the rear tirescan flatten the grass. With turf tires, this may not be an issue. I would notbuy another mid mount, because I use the tractor for snow removal, and gravel workon our road. The mid mount severely limits ground clearance, and hangs up the tractor. It can be removed in 20-30 minutes, but it is a pain to do it. ....

I would first check out the midmounts made by your tractor manufacturer. Most newer midmounts of the same brand as the tractor (20-30 hp) are very easy to remove and reinstall--less than 5 minutes without tools. When it is this easy, you just drop off the deck when doing loader, blade, or 3 point hitch work. In addition, with a midmount it is much easier to see what you are doing especially when trimming around trees, bushes, or buildings. ....

I have asked the same question several times, and there are 2 distinct camps.One camp is that the mid-mount is a pain to put on and take off, that it reduces ground clearance too much, and that it just ends up getting you hungup on stuff when you makethat inevitable trip into the rough stuff. In additionthey tend to cost a lot more.The other camp says that the mid mount cut is much better, the tractor is more manueverablewith the mid-mount deck, you can trim closer to obstructions without hitting orrunning over them (I lost several small trees this way)and you don't get a crickin your neck looking backwards all day.So the decision is yours, and depends on your application. If you do a lot of tighttrimming, and want a golf green lawn, get a mid mount, (and pay more) If you do a lot of loader and rough work, get a 3-point, and save some green. Likewise, if you have a lot of wide open work, a 3-point may be more cost-effective.Whatever you decide, check out the convenience factor of taking it off and puttingit back on. If it takes more than about 5 minutes, you will probably never removeit.GM ....

Jack is right,check out the decks of your own color,may cost a little more,but if your thinking mid-mount,I wouldn't buy an off-brand.I prefer the mid-mount deck for various reasons,main one is speed of mid-pto,more rpms make a more aggressive mower deck,doing a better job of cutting.You don't mention what brand you own,there's a post on here somewhere about a good used Kubota deck for sale,I think it was 60". ....

I have a 60" mid mount on a 2X4 Kubota B6200 that works great. Smooth cut and better manueverablility than old Wheelhorse. Yes it does reduce ground clearance and it takes about 15 minutes to either install or remove. If most of your work is cutting grass, I do not think you would be disappointed. ....
